Romanticism

Romanticism has started in late 18th century and was developed further in the 19th century, as a period it shows it self in different characteristics, features but with the same elements. It was a break out from a machinery age, when everything was the same and ordinary, mas production. Artists and designers wanted to return to the old age, where buildings and art had character, when they were unrepeatable  It was time of rebellious against the structure and tradition of the society in many different ways. Artists and designers wanted to recreate the beautiful world of art that was suppressed under The Industrial Revolution.

Romanticism tackled subjects like:
  • death
  • tragedies
  • punishments
  • disasters
  • anything that was dramatic
  • war
Romanticism presented different thoughts, emotions and it gave freedom to imagination. The emotions it zoomed in most were apprehensionhorror and terror, and awe. It brought back the old age, folk art, mythology, it encouraged individualism in the world where machinery was put above all. Romanticism embraced the unknown, exotic, unfamiliarity and distancity in order to escape the boring everyday life.
