Romanticism

Romanticism has started in late 18th century and was developed further in the 19th century, as a period it shows it self in different characteristics, features but with the same elements. It was a break out from a machinery age, when everything was the same and ordinary, mas production. Artists and designers wanted to return to the old age, where buildings and art had character, when they were unrepeatable  It was time of rebellious against the structure and tradition of the society in many different ways. Artists and designers wanted to recreate the beautiful world of art that was suppressed under The Industrial Revolution.

Romanticism tackled subjects like:
  • death
  • tragedies
  • punishments
  • disasters
  • anything that was dramatic
  • war
Romanticism presented different thoughts, emotions and it gave freedom to imagination. The emotions it zoomed in most were apprehensionhorror and terror, and awe. It brought back the old age, folk art, mythology, it encouraged individualism in the world where machinery was put above all. Romanticism embraced the unknown, exotic, unfamiliarity and distancity in order to escape the boring everyday life.

The Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution occurred between 1760s and 1840s and was the new manufacturing process that took man work and changed into machinery work. It originated from England and soon in few decade took over Western Europe and U.S.A.

It all began from the time when the first steam engine was made. In the beginning it was used for mines, to remove water, later on in time, with few changes made it evolved to the production factories where it would power machines that would make things ironware, steam power to textile ware. These also were the tree "leading" sectors of the industry

From 1840s to 1870s The Industrial Revolution turned into 2dn Industrial Revolution. Which meant that economical and technological progress gained its momentum, and progressed into machine made with steam engine, like boats, ships and rail ways.

Besides evolving in making things and producing better products faster and cheaper, The Industrial Revolution had impact of the economy and relation between England and other countries.

This jump in industry has affected the artistic and designer worlds in major ways.
